What is the mepco detection bill?

When mepco notices something unusual in the consumer’s electricity consumption. Then they release a separate bill which is called “Detection Bill”. This bill isn’t like your regular bill but a penalty charge. This bill can be issued due to several reasons such as:

  • Electricity Theft.
  • Hooking.
  • Meter tempering.
  • Suddenly units drop.
  • Illegal activity with meters.

If any of these are detected with your meter, then be ready for the detection bill. Mepco sees your bill history (how much units you are consuming) based on it, they will release the detection bill to recover the charges.

When a detection bill is issued?

  • Using direct hooking (kundi) which is an illegal activity and can cause strong legal actions, if you are using it for too long. Mepco will release the detection bill according to the patterns of electricity consumption.
  • If you are using a faulty meter and didn’t inform the mepco about the meter fault.
  • Be ready for a detection bill, if you have done something illegal with your electric meter such as meter tempering / slowing down or any hole found in the meter.

What is the Mepco detection bill policy?

A Mepco consumer will be investigated under the 39 & 39-A section of electricity Act-1910, if he is using hooking. According to Section 48, police will also get involved in this. Mepco will use Section 28, to calculate how much electricity has been consumed in such electricity theft. Moreover, if you are the owner of the palace where this happened, you will also get involved in the case.
